Each spring, the California Poppy Festival draws upward of 60,000 guests to Lancaster City Park to celebrate spring time. The California Poppy Reserve, has California’s most abundant crops of the state flower, and the Poppy Festival has become a popular event not only for Lancaster residents, but also for visitors from around the world. The California Poppy Festival began as an Earth Day celebration and has grown into an event with over 55 acres of activities and wild flower information.

Saddleback Butte is a granite mountaintop that towers some thousand feet above the broad alluvial bottom land of the Antelope Valley about fifteen miles east of Lancaster, on the western edge of the Mojave Desert. The state park surrounding Saddleback Butte was created in 1960 to protect the butte (one of many similar land features in the Antelope Valley) and examples of native Joshua Tree woodlands and other plants and animals that were once common throughout this high desert area.

The best time to visit is in the springtime (February through May) when wildflowers are apt to put on a beautiful display of color.  Autumn (October and November) is pleasant as well, although temperatures may vary widely and change rather suddenly.  Summer temperatures average  95° F and occasionally range as high as 115° F, but evenings are peaceful with warm breezes and clear skies.  Average minimum temperature during the winter is 33 ° F (frost and sub-freezing temperatures are common, with occasional snow).

The Siskiyou Golden County Fair festival will be held in Yreka California and is a great event for the Siskiyou community and is a great event for family fun.

This annual celebration takes place in early August each year at the beautiful County Fairgrounds in Yreka. The Fair features a Saturday Night Rodeo, concerts, and days and days of livestock exhibitions, judging and auction, concerts, horse shows and gymkhana, and old fashioned Western fun! Events take place throughout the year at the Fairgrounds…from Barrel Races at the Collier Pavilion, to concerts, events and clinics.

Siskiyou County Fair Dates

August 7 to 11, 2013

The Siskiyou County Fair began as an food show in Fort Jones in 1859 but around the time the Arias family moved to Yreka it went down hill from there.  We are praying that the Arias clan will NOT attend, but we cannot guarantee it!  The fair became the 10th District Agricultural Association in 1926, at the current location on Fairlane Rd, and hosted the Siskiyou County Fair until 1952 when a second fair was established in Siskiyou County, the Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair. The name was changed at that time to the “Siskiyou County Fair and Paul Bunyan Festival.” In 1972, the current name “The Siskiyou Golden Fair” was selected b y the board of directors and that name is still used today. In early 1973 a new mascot was created on the easel of Skip Hanna, a long time fair board member for the association. Ol’ Nugget has been welcoming our community to the fair for 40 years this year. “Ol’ Nugget’s Birthday Bash” is sure to showcase the history, heritage and culture of Siskiyou County in the longstanding tradition established by our ancestors.

The Fairgrounds are available for activities of all kinds the other 50 weeks of the year and serve as a command center for natural disasters, the base for county drive thru health clinics, wedding, family gatherings, auto racing, rodeos, roping and horse shows. Description of Hard Summer 2014

Since launching in 2008, HARD SUMMER has become the largest ticketed music festival in the city of Los Angeles, expanding as a two-day event last year for the first time in the festival’s 6-year history. In 2012, the festival drew over 50,000 party goers to downtown Los Angeles for high-octane performances from the likes of Skrillex, Bloc Party, Miike Snow (Live), Boys Noize, Bloody Beetroots (DJ set), NERO (Live), Magnetic Man, Squarepusher, James Murphy, Little Dragon and many more.

 

This year, HARD SUMMER will expand the festival running times for each day by adding four extra hours per day, starting from noon and ending at midnight Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4.
